The Scouts had a great weekend at Whitley Beaumont for their Patrol Camp. Patrol Camp prepares the younger Scouts for Summer Camp where both Scouts and Explorers will be away for one week. Patrol Camp allows the leaders and older Scouts to teach the younger, inexperienced Scouts important skills they need on camp such as lighting a good fire to cook on, knife and axe work, survival skills and most importantly how to put up tents and then dismantle tents.
Beavers receive help

Donation from Bilsthorpe Round Table
Bilsthorpe Round Table have very kindly collected and donated many much needed resources for our Scout Group to help compensate for those lost in the recent floods. Hannah recently passed over the resources to Carole (Mytholmroyd Beaver Leader) and we look forward to putting them to good use in the very near future.
We’d like to thank them for their kind support towards the group at this time, it is very much appreciated.
Beavers sponsored walk
On Sunday 24th January, 30 local Beavers from colonies around the Halifax area took part in a sponsored walk to support and raise money for our group as we look to rebuild and consolidate after the recent floods. We thank them for their kind help and support at this time.
Floods in Mytholmroyd
On 26th December 2015, Mytholmroyd, along with other areas throughout the Calder Valley suffered from severe flooding. Our Scout HQ was one of the buildings affected, damaging a lot of our equipment; a lot of which is now beyond repair. It will be a long and difficult process getting back up and running again and we thank all of those who have volunteered their time to support the group already. Below are some images captured the day after the flooding occurred.

The line towards the top of our main door shows the height the flood waters reached – around 2 metres

The flood water broke into the office damaging over 250 maps, Scouting books and training resources. The water was so strong it knocked over cabinets and warped the interior wall

The level the water reached on our garage – our two minibuses are housed here and could be beyond repair

The main hall – walls, skirting boards, tables and display boards damaged. The flooring also damaged in parts by rising water – Not a pretty sight to walk into.

Our main storage cupboard – climbing gear, pioneering poles and camping gear just some of the items ruined by the flood waters

Nighthawk Challenge 2015
Another fantastic year for the group in the Nighthawk Challenge, an overnight hiking competition ran by Huddersfield North Scouts. We managed a joint first place finish in the Explorer competition and a third place finish in the Scout competition – a great effort from the group I’m sure you’ll all agree.
Perhaps the most pleasing aspect though is that we had 24 Scouts and Explorers representing Mytholmroyd at this event – our best turnout ever!
Well done to all who took part!
Summer Camp 2015
A great week was had by all who attended Summer Camp, held this year at Ratlingate Scout Centre near Carlisle. The week included kayaking trips, rock climbing, assault courses, a pleasant hike along Hadrian’s Wall along with many more exciting activities around Cumbria. Photos to follow in due course, but thanks goes out to those who helped make the week as enjoyable as it was.
