I was brought up in the Orkney Islands and have lived in Cragg Vale nearly 20 years. I am married to Amy and together we have 4 children (Marcus 12, Emily 9 and Natalie 7, Nicholas 2). With my day job I am a graduate Engineer who now works in a global mangement role for a large British Engineering company. I have lived in Germany for 4 years, fluent in German and travel regularly as part of my job.
Orkney is where I developed my passion for the outdoors and in particular walking and sailing. As we didn’t have Scouts on the island, I did the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme instead. My passion for such activity lead organisations and the involvement of my children has helped me redevelop.
I was elected to serve as Hebden Royd Mayor on 18th May 2011 for the year 2011/2012 and I was very proud to represent our area in this way. This year I am delighted and equally proud to be chosen and allowed to act as Chair to our fabulous Scout Group here in Mytholmroyd.
Our group is an extremely well established and respected in our area. The breadth of activities that are on offer to our young people offer fantastic opportunities for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to develop so many life skills they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. We have over 120 children and are led by a unbelievable group of volunteer leaders who dedicate their free time to support the development of our young people. This dedication I totally respect and drives us all to be involved.
I feel very honoured to represent Mytholmroyd Scout Group and I am committed to do the absolute best of my ability and to help lead the Scouts. I will do my utmost to preserve and enhance this fabulous organisation in our area.
Thank you for the opportunity to act as Chair.
